Jared Fogle, the former spokesperson for Subway, was once seen as a hero for his weight loss journey, which he attributed to the chain’s sandwiches. However, in 2015, federal authorities raided his home and discovered his dark secret. Fogle had sexually abused 14 minors and possessed child pornography. The subsequent investigation and trial resulted in Fogle being sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.
The Rise and Fall of Jared Fogle
Jared Fogle’s weight loss journey was inspirational to many, and he quickly became a popular spokesperson for Subway. His message was simple: by eating Subway sandwiches and walking daily, he had lost over 200 pounds. Fogle’s success story and relationship with Subway made him a household name, and he even launched the Jared Foundation, a nonprofit aimed at fighting childhood obesity.
The Investigation and Trial
The investigation into Fogle began in 2015 when federal authorities raided his home and discovered his disturbing secret. Russell Taylor, the executive director of Fogle’s charitable foundation, was also investigated and found to have sent an image of a naked minor to Fogle. The subsequent trial resulted in Fogle being sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possession or distribution of child pornography and traveling across state lines to have commercial sex with a minor. Taylor and another accomplice were also sentenced to prison.
The Victims Speak Out
The victims of Fogle’s abuse, including Taylor’s stepdaughters, spoke out about their experiences and warned others of the dangers of sexual predators. The sisters identified themselves as two of Fogle’s victims and revealed how Fogle had manipulated and groomed them. They have not spoken to their mother since she refused to admit her fault in the situation.
The Docuseries
The three-part docuseries titled “Jared from Subway: Catching a Monster” premiered on Investigation Discovery on March 6, 2023, and focuses on Fogle’s downfall. It features interviews with former classmates, informant Rochelle Herman, and two of Fogle’s victims, Taylor’s stepdaughters. Herman provided taped chats with Fogle that helped build a case against him and reveals the extent of his disturbing behavior.
Jared Fogle’s story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of sexual predators and the importance of vigilance in protecting children. The victims’ bravery in speaking out about their experiences serves as a reminder that these crimes can happen to anyone. The docuseries sheds light on this important issue and highlights the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
